Andover men's 2nd IX faced a tough top-of-the-league Hamble opposition at home on Saturday. After an inspired team talk by de facto Captain Guy Andover went into the match with high spirits.
10 minutes into the match Andover went into the lead after a scrap on the opposition's goal line resulted in Ben Goacher's first goal a couple of minutes after joining the game as substitute.
Hamble responded, scoring from a short corner to draw them level. However this comeback was short lived as Ben Goacher scored once more, pulling a chest high cross into the back of the net with up most precision.
After halftime Andover piled the pressure on with Mark Frost scoring on the back post and man of the match George Allmark putting away Andover's fourth to extend their lead to three goals.
Despite this Hamble kept pressing, with the Andover defence holding against the worst of Hamble's offence. Hamble's second goal was made redundant as Will's reverse strike from the top of the shooting circle all but secured Andover's win.
The 5-2 win brings the 2nd IX league total above last season's attempts just 5 games in. As always a big thank you to our volunteer umpires for making the game possible and everyone who came out to support the team.
