On Saturday the 2nd of December, a strong team of 13 Andover 2nds players arrived at John Hanson for a crucial game against New Forest 1st. Andover dominated the opening of the match with Guy Sleeman-Hiscock and Mark Frost causing the Forest defenders lots of trouble. Andover’s break through came when Guy played an excellent ball into the D and eliminating the keeper, Jack Fish managed to dive and tap the ball in at the back post.
Andover continued to dominate the game with continued attacks, with Forest getting more and more frustrated as the game progressed. A cracking goal from Hayden Jenkins doubles Andover’s lead before the end of the half. An encouraging team talk from Guy at half time kept Andover from getting complacent. A 3rd goal was added by Max Souter scoring an excellent drag flick leaving Forest to resort to insulting the quality Andover players.
The fourth goal was added 5 minutes later when Frosty beat the keeper to continue his good form in front of goal. At this point Andover switched off and allowed New Forest to put some pressure on and score a careless goal, however this was a rare occurrence with Hayden and Mark Eggington dominating the centre of midfield. After allowing Forest an underserved goal Andover upend their game again and Guy managed to score another goal in an excellent scoring season. Andover’s final goal was added with 10 minutes to go when the ball was played across the face of goal and Matt Doyle (Ron) got a touch. Luckily this fell straight to Fish on the back post who was able to slot it in for his 2nd of the game. Max deservedly took Man of the Match due to his quality drag flick and solid play in defence
