Andover were back to full strength for a tough away fixture vs a strong Camberley & Farnborough.
With both teams towards the top of the league this game was going to be decided on small margins and the match start exactly that way both teams shutting each other out, not allowing many chances for either squad. Camberley slowly started to create more space for their strikers to work Andover's defence who did not fault at each occasion of being asked. However it looked as if the deadlock wold be broken by Camberley after winning the first seven short corners of the game, but as before Andovers defence held strong with Woolf and Sorenson making crucial tackles and interceptions, not forgetting Baverstock making a number of drag flick saves. The resilient defence seemed to spur the rest of Andover's players on and from the next attack O'Sullivan fired across the area to find Jenkins who had plenty of time to fire a rocket passed a scrambling keeper. Half time came just as Andover started to dominate possession giving Camberley time to regain focus.
The second half started as the first finished with Andover dominating. However ill discipline would hand dominance back to Camberley soon into the half, green cards to Sorenson, Goacher and Allmark and a yellow to Allen gave complete control to the home team. So after the cards came Camberley managed to secure themselves an equalizer, when some sloppy defending saw Camberley's striker slot home from very close range into an empty goal. Backs were against the wall for Andover but with some quick tactical changes from captain Pawley Andover seemed to have much more time and space out on the wings stretching the game giving the strikers chances on goal. Trott and Evans in the centre of midfield never gave up throughout the whole game and when Trott stole the ball high in Camberley's half it looked like he would put the ball past the keeper however very unselfishly he slipped to Goacher who deflected the ball home into the near corner of the goal giving Andover the 2-1 lead they needed. Andover were desperate for another 3 points and tackles were flying in late on in the game meaning they finished the match with only 9 players on the pitch, however some very clever hockey within the last 5 minutes of the game allowed the squad to hold on to a 2-1 win.
Andover return to their fortress at John Hanson next week to take on league contenders Croydon & Old Whitgiftian with a hope to take another 3 points and move to the top of the table.
