And they're off

Basingstoke Ladies 1 Andover Ladies 1

Andover started the new season upon their return to Hants Div 1 with a good display against a potential promotion chasing Basingstoke at their Down Grange pitch.
Despite conceding the lions share of possession early on, Andover were seldom troubled in the first half by a well organised team. The 1's welcomed back Suzie Oostendorp after a 6 season absence, where she quickly made herself at home, teaming up strongly with last season's player of the year Sarah Wiseman.
Andover made a number of good chances through some excellent work down the right by Rhea Li. However the stalemate was broken in the 20th minute by a superb solo effort and finish by Emily Lawson.
As the second half began, Andover knew that they would have to defend well to protect their lead. Karen Winnett intercepted a number of passes heading towards 'Stoke's nippy front two, however their goal finally came when a well blocked penalty corner by Hazel Stacey went back to an attacker, who's deflected shot sat up nicely to be tapped in. Andover continued to dig in as the pressure increased, preventing any more clear cut chances by the opposition.
A well earned draw at the final whistle, however Andover Ladies know it is goals that they need this season if they are to push for a return to the South League.
