Andover set up with a more attacking formation this week, switching to three at the back, 4 midfield and 3 forwards. Midfielders Lisa Crack and Kirsty Brewer worked hard in front of the defence to provide extra support, whilst still managing to get up the pitch on the attack.
The defence found themselves with plenty to do and on occasion found themselves overloaded, the first goal came from a good run down the right side from a pacey New Forest player. Despite her best efforts veteran Lisa Crack was unable to catch her, with the Forest player going on to score the 1st of the match.
After the break Andover came out determined to prevent any overloads with much improved marking all over the field. Charlotte King, Amelia Lewis and Sally Prior were kept busy on the wings cutting out the New Forest wide balls from hit outs which had been a constant threat in the first half.
Despite this the 2nd goal came early in the second half from a short corner strike. Andover were undeterred and continued to press for a goal. As the half progressed Andover's passing improved with Kristin providing some good passes into the D. Despite several short corners and shots from open play Andover were not able to convert. Louise Cuff came close with a shot hitting the post and another deflected wide off a New Forest shin pad.
When New Forest attacked the Andover defensive line up of Lyanne Morrison, Charlotte Smith and Niamh Horne held firm, with some excellent tackles from Charlotte Smith despite not being 100% fit.
With a little more precision and composure in front of goal Andover could and should have won this game, however they can take heart that they are creating chances, and with some shooting practice under their belts a win will not be far away!
