Petersfield Vets 5 Andover Diamonds 0

Andover diamonds travelled to last years league winners Petersfield in the league cup. The Andover side were expecting a difficult game and the strong, skilful and physical Petersfield team started at high pace with the intent to intimidate Andover.

After 10 minutes Petersfield realised that they were in a game and Andover were a match for everything they threw at them. Keeper Dave Rutherford set the tone with some outstanding saves, tipping the ball over the crossbar and around the post on several occasions thawting Petersfield's short corner routine.

Rob Oostendorp playing with his customary calmness continually found Richard Romer-Lee & Glyn Hacker in midfield who started to dictate the game. The game was evenly matched with Andover coming close on several occasions but couldn't find the final pass. Despite Romer-Lee going off injured Andover held firm with Man of the match for Paul Collins make numerous important tackles.

With the score 0-0 at half-time Petersfield started to take advantage of the tiring Andover midfield and cause more problems for the defence. The resulting short corners were cleverly re-worked by Petersfield allowing them to pass around the Andover keeper and start to score.

Despite creating many chances of their own, with Richard Hoo and Mike Boyne going close, Andover were unable to trouble the scoresheet but should take much confidence in how they matched the current champions for much of the game. The final score finishing 5-0 to Petersfield.
