Valiant effort by Andover

Andover travelled to Fareham with high hopes. Composure and passing were the focus of the game and Andover did not disappoint. They opened brightly and did indeed pass well. The whole side played some excellent possession hockey, causing Fareham to chase the ball. Andover’s opening goal came from a passing move that culminated in Sue moving the ball onto Sammy who opened the scoring. Andover continued to pressurise a solid Fareham defence. Carley came close with a fine shot from the top of the D, Karen also missing the goal by inches. Andover continued to dominate in the second half, with Sue being ‘all over it’ and player of the match Karen battling to create chances. Andover were in ascendancy, playing some great hockey, but their inability to double their scoring meant they were vulnerable to an equaliser. Fareham moment came following a penalty corner which hit a foot, converting the decision to a penalty stroke. Fareham converted and a draw was the final result. Andover were upset, but should take heart in a great performance.
