The Andover Girls went to Haslemere for the In2Hockey confident that they could progress well, but that was not to be the case.

The team were up against Alton, Petersfield and Havent in the first round and unfortunately drew Alton for the first game. The game went badly from the off as Andover failed to wake up and get in to their stride for the first 10 minutes, as can often be the case. Unfortunately in these short matches you cannot afford to do that. With the first match lost 3-0 we had a massive hill to climb.

Game two was a real cracker, as the girls stated to play the great hockey that we know they are capable of. End to end Petersfield drew first blood before Andover pulled one back, taking the score to one all at half time. With just a couple of minutes to play Petersfield slotted a second in to the net. With the pressure really on the girls upped their game once again and charged back at Petersfield to slot one last goal home to draw the game much to everyone's relief.

Game three saw us needing to not only win, but to also win with a 4 goal lead to stand any hope of going through. The game started well with an early goal but despite many chances in the Havent D we just were not able to get the ball in the net again, meaning our progress depended on the result of the Alton and Petersfield game. Everyone watched with bated breath hoping for a big win by Alton but much to everyone's surprise Petersfield won 2-1 taking them to the top of the pool. So had we not lost the first game it would have been a very different result.

The proof of what the girls are capable of is in the fact we managed to draw 2-2 with the team that won the pool and looked like we could have beaten them. These 7s are a very different game to the full pitch game and the Girls did not adjust quick enough which is a shame but never mind we are still top of the league and unbeaten so far :-)
