A depleted Andover team travelled to Trojans on Sunday for a match against a side advertised as being equally decimated by player availability over the holiday period. The pre-game advertisement did not quite live up to expectations and the home side presented a well drilled outfit with 3 replacements being used judiciously to freshen their legs.
Despite this, Andover put in a performance that highlighted the improvements that they have been making in recent weeks. Defensively, the team continues to show that they are one of the most resilient in the league and with Archie ‘ninja’ Stepney in goal they are able to keep out all but the most stubborn and skilful of attacks. In midfield and attack Andover are starting to develop the ability to launch rapid and effective counter attacks, spreading the ball wide and moving it at pace and it was through one of these attacks that Ben Thomson deservedly scored.
As the team enjoys the festive break they can take great pride in the way that they have improved and grown this season and all the signs are there that they will have an increasingly successful second half.
