Andover narrowly lost out in a tight match against Aldershot & Farnham

Andover played their second match of the season on Sunday and narrowly lost a tight match against visiting Aldershot & Farnham.

There was a new look to the Andover defence, with a goalkeeping debut from Hari Putt who made a number of quality saves that made it very easy to forget that he had only tried the pads on for the first time the day before. Ahead of him Pip Watson and Jake Chadd looked like they have the makings of a formidable defensive partnership ahead of them. They were ably supported in defence by Peter Thomson, Ethan Woollett and Charlie Lewis - the latter two making their debuts in the Andover u12s.

Andover sported a strong midfield of William Taverner, Joshua Taylor, Rory Glover and Ben Thomson who with every game are taking note of the instructions of their coaches to 'defend narrow and attack wide'. Up front Harry Cowan, Henry Wolfe-Barry, Xavier Cash and Alex Birmingham created numerous chances - and it was Alex that scored the goal to level the scores in the final quarter. Alas, a final penalty corner from Aldershot was expertly finished and despite a frantic last five minutes where Andover were camped in the opposition half, the home side weren't able to score the equalising goal.

Well done boys, a good performance again with many positives to take into the next match.
