The stark facts are that Andover went out at the pool stage at the In2Hockey Hampshire tournament on Sunday, winning one of their three games.
The facts bely the details though, Andover were drawn against two division 1 sides and one team that was in the equivalent south division. The first game, against Southamptoon from the south division, saw Andover play well and win comfortably 3 - 0.
In the second game, against Fareham, Andover didn't perform to their usual high standards and let in a sloppy goal to allow Fareham back into the game. At the final whistle, with the match drawn, Fareham won a penalty corner - which they executed well and scored, leaving Andover distraught.
In the final game, against the all conquering Havant, Andover fared much better. They scored in the first half and had two good chances saved well. In the second half Havant equalised and at the final whistle the match was heading for a draw, except that Andover had conceded a late penalty corner. Once again, Andover hearts were broken as a well executed move beat their defence.
All in all it was a great team performance and in particular Archie Stepney produced some fantastic saves in the Andover goal.
