Andover Men's 3's travelled to Portsmouth with a bare 11 hoping to continue their unbeaten run. The game started brightly with Tom lee opening the scoring after 5 minutes coolly lifting the ball over the keeper with his second attempt. Andover continued to dominate the game but could not find the back of net. This was to prove costly the more the game went on. As Andover attacked they thought they had secured a short corner but unfortunately both umpires were unable to see the large size 10 of the opposition kick the ball this lead against the run of play the home team braking and scoring at the opposite end. It remained 1 all until half time.
Start of the second half Andover came out and continued to play some good hockey in spells. But again could not find the pass to unlock the Portsmouth defence. Again after long periods of pressure Portsmouth broke and were awarded a short corner which they managed to covert more by luck than skill as the ball bounced in off the back of the Andover goal keeper. Andover kept on working until the end but could not find the equaliser with Matthew Hodgson going close.
M.O.M Liam Kavanagh on a day when nobody stood out he continued to run for his team until the final whistle.
11 disappointed players today which showed how this teams expectations have risen this season and I am sure we will all learn from this one and take it to the next game.
