U16 boys travelled to Wellington College to play Yateley in their second league match of the season. Having struggled to convert their chances in their league opener against Fleet & Ewshot, it was good to see the team's confidence boosted with 4 goals in this fixture.

The game started very lively but with both teams struggling to find rhythm to their passing. Andover soon settled and began moving the ball around their midfield with greater composure and purpose. Charlie Latter and Jack Fish were beginning to find space in the centre of midfield and linked up well with Tom Carter and Charlie Scowen down the right flank.

With centre back Ed Hall unavailable due to injury, Sam Piper stepped in to the centre of a 3 man defence and put in a commanding performance. Ably assisted by Stuart Holdsworth and Oly Godman, the defence kept Yateley's opportunities on goal to a minimum.

Andover took the lead midway through the first half when Jack Fish neatly finished from a short corner. The lead was soon doubled when Robert Isaac forced the ball over the line from close range. The final action of the first half saw Andover score from another penalty corner when Jack Fish slotted home at the near post.

Andover took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed Yateley more space in midfield. Following a period of sustained pressure, the home side pulled a goal back when a fierce cross from the right was smartly deflected passed Will Hemming in the Andover goal. However, that was the last time Hemming was to be beaten by the Yateley side and he was at his best to deny a goal-bound shot with an outstretched gloved hand.

Andover continued to create chances. Scowen, in particular, continued to torment the Yateley defence with powerful running and created a number of chances which were unfortunately not converted. The team could sense a fourth goal was imminent and it very nearly came from U14 player Ollie Hall. Hall picked up the ball tight to the left touchline and deftly evaded the challenges before laying the ball off inside. He picked up the return pass just inside the D and his first time shot beat the keeper but hit the foot of the post and bounced away from goal.

The fourth goal eventually came with just minutes to go. A quick ball out from Charlie Latter beat the Yateley defence and found Alfie Morgan in space. Morgan calmly collected the ball and slotted it past the on-rushing keeper.
